Come find out about the dark secrets of plant roots on Open Farm Sunday

Do you know just how important plant roots are? Everybody knows they provide plants with the nutrients they need to produce the food we eat, but they also have a few surprising uses you might not have heard about.

Come find out about the dark, underground secrets of plant roots on Open Farm Sunday at the James Hutton Institute, on Sunday 7 June, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The Institute is joining more than 300 farms across the UK in welcoming thousands of visitors to help them connect to the farms where their food comes from.

At Invergowrie, on the outskirts of Dundee, the Institute will offer a range of free activities throughout the day to show how farming and the environment can work better together.

Visitors will be able to meet lambs, learn about experimental farming techniques and help in the fight against plant diseases. Many exhibits will be under cover so don’t worry if it’s a wet day: come and have fun!

Open Farm Sunday is an initiative organised since 2006 by Linking Environment and Farming (LEAF); the James Hutton Institute is a LEAF Innovation Centre.
