Inside the marquee at Royal Highland Show 2014

The James Hutton Institute is delighted to once again be inviting visitors to join them at their marquee during the Royal Highland Show where we will be showcasing the contribution our science and research makes to the continuing success of Scottish farming, food and land-based industries.

During the show we will also announce the winner of Best Soil in Show which has been run in conjunction with the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs and Soil Association Scotland. This is the third year we have run Best Soil in Show which helps highlight the importance of looking after soils. This year an organically managed category has been added, with an extra trophy to match.

Our scientists will be on hand to answer your questions and tell visitors about the practical applications of our current research: from the countryside to your kitchen, the difference our work makes is all around us.

And for the children!

Tim George and fans having fun in the RHET!Children can come and visit our family-friendly exhibit in the Children's Discovery Centre where we have teamed up with Our Dynamic Earth where they'll find lots of fun activities to help them find out about how soil keeps the planet alive!
